Special Diets? How to Plan for Keto Catering this Fall

One of the most popular dietary choices today is a ketogenic diet, often abbreviated as “keto.” When it comes to catering, it might seem impossible to choose the right dishes to accommodate diets like these. However, with a little bit of knowledge, you can work with your caterer to ensure everyone has a great meal, keto or not.

Foods to Avoid on Keto

The first thing you want to do is know which foods someone on keto can and cannot eat. Different people will have different needs, but there are several foods that should be avoided. This includes the following, although the list isn’t exhaustive:

  • Desserts like pies, cakes, and cookies use processed sugar
  • Foods made with grains, like cereal, pasta, bread, and even breading on meat
  • Lentils, chickpeas, and other legumes and beans
  • Root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, parsnips, and potatoes

There may be other things to avoid so make sure you’re aware of the specific diet of the guest(s) on keto.

Speak with Your Guests

The most important thing to do when someone has a special diet is to talk to them. Find out what diets are in place and the restrictions each person has. The caterer cannot make a great meal for a crowd without knowing which foods cannot be served. Make sure there are several options for people who have food restrictions.

This also gives you a chance to get RSVPs in addition to diet information. You will have everything in an email so you can go over it before you nail down catering. Provide this information to the catering service so they can make a meal that everyone will enjoy on the day of the event.

Share Menu Ideas

Caterers are often well-aware of popular diets and what dishes are appropriate. However, this isn’t always the case. Whenever possible, help choose the menu that works best for your event. Being aware of what foods shouldn’t be served can go a long way toward narrowing down your options. Offer input to ensure your event goes well.

If you’re providing catering for a group, it might seem stressful to provide delicious dishes for people on special diets. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Make sure you have all the information you need to ensure the process goes well. Choose a brunch cafe in the area, which is experienced with keto brunch catering options for a fantastic event.
